Individual Therapy
~ For young people (5+)~
I am passionate about early intervention and providing mental health support for young people, empowering them with tools to manage their symptoms and offering them a space to feel seen, heard and understood. In sessions, I offer psychotherapy and often incorporate creative therapeutic methods. This is not an art class, but an outlet for self expression, reflection, and self understanding.
I support young people who are struggling with:
Anxiety
Emotional Dysregulation
Depression and Low mood
Self esteem issues
Trauma
Identity issues
Challenges with neurodivergence
Substance use
Bullying
Parental Separation
Creative therapeutic approaches are an effective, evidence-based method for working with young people, supporting them to find natural ways of expressing themselves. For many of us, finding the words for our inner experience is difficult. This is especially true for the younger members of our community.
Creative approaches are shown to decrease the symptoms of anxiety and depression, improve self-esteem and self-understanding, release challenging emotions, and increase coping skills. Non-verbal therapies such as art therapy can be especially helpful for young people who are neurodivergent.
During sessions, I prioritise building a safe and trusting relationship, respecting boundaries and offering control and agency throughout the session. I am also trained in child-centred play therapy, and may incorporate this into sessions with younger individuals.
It is best if parents and caregivers do not attend their child’s art therapy session. The therapist will communicate and offer regular feedback to caregivers, and may also offer family or dyad sessions if deemed appropriate. We want to make sure children and adolescents feel that the art therapy space is a special and safe space just for them.
